The Importance of Money Management Skills During The Quarantine
As tens of millions of Americans lose their jobs due to the economic havoc wrought by the coronavirus pandemic, fiscal responsibility is quickly becoming a vital skill. And according to a new survey conducted by SweetRing, a dating app used by millions of people seeking serious relationships, being good with money and cooking skills are also becoming desired traits in a partner.
In the poll, in which 864 SweetRing users were surveyed between April 15th to May 5th, nearly 48% of respondents admitted that they were not good at managing their own money but would like to get better at it. Women made up two thirds of the respondents who admitted to having issues with managing their finances and aspirations to improve.
"I got furloughed from my job because of the coronavirus quaratine and I may not get it back, so I'm pretty stressed about money right now," Lauren, a 26-year-old respondent explained. "I really want a partner who can understand that and wants to find ways to have fun without spending too much money... and maybe can help save for a house one day."
SweetRing users are using these concerns to vet potential matches. The data shows that users are 43% more active on the "Question posting" feature in the last 60 days compared to last year. Questions under "value" have increased by 34% and 27% for "lifestyle." Most of the questions asked under the value sections are related to spending habits like "What do you absolutely refuse to spend money on" or "what do you think is a luxury?" On the other hand "Do you know how to cook?" has been the question that has been asked the most under the lifestyle section.
"I think it is important to find a guy who knows how to cook especially during this Corona crisis," said Amy, a 28 year old female user on SweetRing.
During the pandemic, people on dating apps aren't just looking for matches who are good looking, with good personalities but also who are smart with money.
