Flash Marriage

Sometimes, you just know — it’s love at first sight (or even swipe). In other cases, it takes people years of dating to be ready to say “I do.” And then there are those who want to fall in love ASAP, but take a long time to find that instant connection.

In a survey conducted by the SweetRing dating app, nearly 75% of participants say they would love to get married as soon as possible. The number is even higher for participants between the ages of 28 and 34, both men and women.

Further, a whopping 43% of those ASAP respondents say they would be willing to get married within three months of a new relationship and 22% say they’d even be up for doing it within a month of dating. SweetRing, it should be said, is an app for people looking for a serious relationship.

There are practical considerations for many SweetRing user respondents. An unexpected pregnancy was the number one reason cited by people who said they were willing to get married within three months of meeting someone; 95% of men indicated getting a woman pregnant was their top reason for choosing such fast nuptials. Still, both men and women chose love at first sight ranked as the second most popular reason for a quickie marriage.

Also of note: 50% of women who say they’d be willing to get married within three months say they might just do it on a wild impulse, with no pregnancy or planning involved.

The immediacy with which people seem to be willing to get married may seem surprising or unconventional, but it jives with responses to other SweetRing surveys. Generally, women say that they require a four-date evaluation period to decide whether or not someone is boyfriend material.
